Meanwhile I’m back in 2008 doing my first play through of Fallout 3 on my PS3.

So ready for this to be backwards compatible on X-1. Too bad it'll be the same month Fallout 4 drops.

Fallout 3 > all
Can’t wait for 4. Will probably have to get a new rig for it.

Love this game. I’m playing through right now myself as the last DLC I didn’t have was on sale.
Confession: as someone who loves 80s punk and 90s “gangster” rap among other things, 90% of the music played on galaxy news radio is awesome.

I almost started that today myself. I won’t buy a new system until I’ve completed the stack I’ve yet to play for PS3.

You're gonna love Forza 6 when you get to it in 2022!

I picked it up for my computer a couple months ago but haven’t had time to play it with the move across the world. I've never been a huge Fallout fan but I've only played a little bit of New Vegas. Is 3 good? Since I have it for the PC, any mods I need to look into?
![]() 09/15/2015 at 05:49 |

Yes, it’s so, so good.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 05:49 |

And soon they’ll be on Fallout 4. Bust through that game man!

Any mods that I should be on the look out for?

I recently played through it (had tried several times before but always got stuck with excessive crashing as the game went on). It probably has the best music of any Fallout game, but beyond that wasn’t that impressed. I thought Obsidian did a much better job with New Vegas, despite their tight timetable.

I have never played that but I have always wanted to. Did you pick up the game cheap?

This is my first fallout experience. I’m liking it. Though honestly I like skyrim better so far. It’s Bethesda, so there are a couple glitches of course but nothing terrible so far.

Huh. I never use the radio. I might give it a shot though.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 09:34 |

Same here. And I don’t play often enough to justify the cost of a new system.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 09:36 |

Yeah. Don’t remember how much. I want to say $20-30 for it and Borderlands 1 & 2. F3 and B1 are both the GotY versions also.

Honestly I liked skyrim better so far. And the Borderlands series for that matter. Though I definitely am enjoying it.

I’ll get to F4 in ten years or so when I wear out my PS3. I don’t have time to play often enough to justify a new system and brand new games all of the time.

I want to play NV, but I heard it was super glitchy and that F3 is the best of the bunch .

Had a few crashes, but nowhere near FO3, though I was playing on PC, can’t say how stable it would be on PS3. NV felt like it had deeper story and characters, as well as better combat, and less generic locations. I did think the FO3 DLC’s were stronger than NV’s (I thought Mothership Zeta and Broken Steel were pretty fun to play through in FO3. NV’s Old World Blues and Lonesome Road weren’t bad, though OWB is a bit silly, but Honest Hearts was pretty boring and Dead Money was basically designed to be unfun.
Fallout 2 is still my favorite Fallout game though (and Skyrim is my favorite Bethesda RPG, though Morrowind was pretty solid as well).

Never really cared for Borderlands. But that sounds like a good deal.

I actually liked New Vegas a lot more. I never finished Fallout 3.

To each his own. For me it’s the animation, music, and guns. It’s just so unique.

Good to know! I’m going to look into some of those when I finish my current set of games. I was thinking about getting Oblivion as well. I have a tendency to play through game series backwards.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 15:53 |

Oblivion is not a bad game, but it’s crashy (at least on PC), the combat is awkward and grindy, and a lot of the environment, especially the dungeons are pretty generic (every mine, tomb, fort interior, etc is built from the same basic set of rooms). There are some fun quest lines though, especially the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood.

Maybe I’ll wait until I randomly stumble across it for very cheap.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 16:52 |

I’m the opposite, I finished both games and all the dlc for both but enjoyed 3 more than New Vegas. The gun mods in New Vegas are really nice to have though.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 16:54 |

I’d almost play it vanilla first, mods can be a giant time sink and comparability between them is not guaranteed. Wouldn’t want to accidentally break any quests! Or go for it and learn to use the in-game console to force broken quests and what not.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 16:54 |

I tried that, the stack is unbeatable.

If you’ve been enjoying Skyrim you’ll either love or hate Oblivion. The guild quests are much better and feel more substantial, but like facw said it is grindy and the combat is wierd. Especially if you’re coming from Skyrim.
I’ve never had any crashy issues with any of these games on PC, PS3 is a different story.

I played Skyrim first, then bought Oblivion GOTY. The characters are ugly, but if you can get past that, I actually liked Oblivion a bit more. Better variety and quests, plus, not having to stop and fight a dragon every 30 seconds.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 17:18 |

The side quests are better than the main quest in Fallout 3. In NV, they all seem tied directly to the main quest.

Got any other game recommendations? I’ve been playing a lot of old cheap used PS3 games while waiting for Fallout 4.

I am the type to do whatever quests I came across. Which meant DLC got me side tracked. As a result Mothership Zeta kind of killed my enthusiasm and momentum and I never went back.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 18:15 |
|
Yeah, I felt like the plot moved along nicely in NV which I finished twice. Mothership Zeta killed my playthrough of F3.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 18:33 |

Zeta is pretty repetitive and kinda difficult if you’re low level.

If only the PS3 had the same recording function as the PS4, I’ve had some truly epic and wonderfully infuriating “4 dragons have appeared and you also just wandered into an enemy camp” moments.
Agree on pretty much all fronts on the Oblivion comparo as well. Though to be fair, on PC there are all sorts of quest and gameplay mods that elevate both games to a new level.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 21:51 |

At the very least I shall attempt them.

I can get over appearance issues pretty easily. It can’t be any worse than games on previous systems as far as graphics are concerned. I care more about the depth of the stories than anything else.

I know how you feel. I bought a PS4 on release, but I don’t have time enough either. Nor enough money to buy new games. I’m playing a lot of PS3 games.
If I had time I’d buy an Xbox and FM6 too, but I just can’t justify it.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 23:05 |

I play it on PS3. I’d recommend the unofficial patch that’s always a good idea for Bethesda games, but otherwise I can’t really recommend any mods.
Everyone I know who mods ends up downloading mod after mod, never actually playing through the game. Eventually mods start to clash and the game will crash every time they see water or something, and they CBF fixing it so they stop. Maybe just play it vanilla?

Part of being a responsible adult. Bleh. FM6 is the only reason I would buy an Xbone, since Gran Turismo hasn’t really been keeping up in the last few years.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 23:10 |

Yes! Yes! Couldn’t agree more, both about adulthood and Gran Turismo.

I guess once you finish the main quest line, it generates even more dragons.
